Hello everyone and congratulations on a successful year at Parklands High. Each member of our community should take the time to reflect and feel proud to be a part of the Parklands team. Week 10 in a school year is an exciting one. Our students have been completing a range of activities at school and offsite. The amount of positive feedback we have received from Stanley through to Ulverstone about our kids' behaviour and manners has been really pleasing. These opportunities only happen with hardworking staff – a big thankyou to our school leaders for setting up these events: Mr Kirk Hampton, Miss Emily Devlin, Mr Allan Frankcombe, Mr Anthony Hall, and Mrs Maree McCall.
Wednesday’s end of year assembly was a fantaistc opportunity for our school community to celebrate the many achievments of our students. It was a privilege to be able to celebrate and acknowledge the contribution our Year 10 students have made to our school community. A massive congratulations to our award winners, these students have applied our core values in both words and actions: Carol Self, Lakota Upton, “the Chicken Rats”, Ryan Smith and the Stringalong team. The assembly has also received really strong feedback on the professionalism of the event. Mr Leigh Crawford and Mrs Bianca Munday need to be congratulated for their efforts.
Wednesday evening was a trip to tinsel town! How fantastic did our Year 10s look! The night was enjoyable for all. This special event was supported by Mr Chris Bryan, Mrs Remi Olomola and the Year 10 teaching team. A special mention to Mr Jamie Hughes and Mr Dylan Costelloe for greeting students on arrival and Mr Chris Swain for his entertaining MC work.
An exciting part of Parklands is our school growth. In 2017 we had 350 enrolled students and this year it is 430 and we are expecting 444 next year. To support this student growth, our teaching team has also expanded. In 2017 we had 29 full-time teachers, but next year we will have 37; we have also grown our full-time teacher assistants from 6 to 10. Today we can announce our new teachers for 2022:
Trish McPhee – Mathematics and Science
Alice Karpiniec – Japanese and Aspire
Carlie Howlett – Humanities
Codi Lincoln – Options (Music, Food, & Art) and Humanities
Daniel Willcox and Ange Hancock – officially taking up teaching positions (and we are pumped to have them)
Atifur Kahn – will be replacing Luke Hickman for the first 5 weeks
As usual, the end of the school year brings with it farewells for some of our highly valued staff members. In 2022 Miss Elloize Galpin will be moving to Hobart to take up a teaching position at Goodwood Primary. Elloize has made a real impact at Parklands and we know she will do the same at her new school. Mr Atifur Kahn will be finishing at Parklands in an official capacity this year. I knew from day 1, when Mr Kahn played the violin that we had a talented individual. We wish Atifur all the best in his future endeavors. Finally, Mr Toby Skene is farewelling us. Mr Skene has been a leader in our MDT space and will be missed by our school. We wish you and your family all very best in your next chapter, Toby.
Finally, a big thank you to our students and parents/carers. There have been so many highlights this year. Your love, care and support of your child is critical in this. Please have a restful holiday, spend time with those that you love. Have a safe and enjoyable Christmas and we look forward to working with you in 2022.

"the Glimar Man" - Robbie Glimer
During Week 9, Tasmanian artist, Robbie Glimer aka “The Glimar Man” attended Parklands High School and worked with a number of staff and students to create a brilliant and vibrant mural to be featured at the entrance of our art department. Robbie worked with a number of students over the course of two days, completing a brief master class in airbrushing techniques, procedures and skills that allowed students to design and complete their own canvased artwork. While working away, Robbie got to know some of our students and their art style and also collaborated with his newfound team to design, plan and create their feature project. The intention behind this feature artwork was to bring colour and life to the bare walls around our recently developed (2019) Art department, capture the creativity and imagination that is explored and brought to life in this safe environment by staff and students. It acknowledges the uniqueness of our school, school body and community, and how each individual bring this space to life by learning and being themselves. Our art department (music, art and drama) has always been a place of pride, acceptance, encouragement, fun, exploration and above all, learning for all, and we are so happy to be now celebrating all that is art with this beautiful mural. Following our time working with Robbie, we have been able to complete our mural with the inclusion of an important phrase that underpins our art department – words that have been carefully considered by our young team of artists on this project “Our Art space is our safe place”, a message and motto we will continue to uphold, honour and promote. Finally it was sealed with a varnish coat and prepped for hanging.
Thank you to Robbie for this invaluable experience, we look forwards to working and learning with you again next year. Thank you to Mr Wells, Ritchie and Mrs Harney for your help and support also with this project and getting it of the ground.
Finally, thank you to all who were involved over the course of the two days for your enthusiasm, creativity, consideration and wisdom. Thank you for creating this fantastic artwork for our school. I cannot wait to see it installed ready for 2022!
Miss Devlin

Year 10 End Of Year Acitvities
On Monday December 13 our Year 10 students travelled to Devonport for some ten pin bowling and target golf. We saw a wide variety of skill levels at both venues; everyone had a go and had plenty of fun. These students are in their finals days of high school and are really enjoying spending quality time with their peers!

Year 9 ADMAN Students
During the last unit in our Year 9 Advanced Manufacturing class, we learnt about drones. This meant that we learnt about the CASA laws for drone operation, what they can be used for, and how they work. We had to build our own drone from a kit but it had no instructions to follow. We worked together to construct it, and had quite a success for its first flight. Some fine tuning was still required; however, it was a really fun unit.

Monday December 13
Year 7 spent the morning jamming to musical bingo in the PAC. The first round was won by Charli Cutler and second round by Ziggy Pennington. Then we caught the bus to Burnie Park where we had recess and enjoyed an orienteering activity that had groups running around the park with a series of clues. We walked to the Burnie Foreshore via KFC for lunch, where we played Frisbee, cricket, volleyball, sandcastle creations, basketball, used the fitness equipment, relaxed and chatted with friends. We returned to school on a disco bus with LEDs and prepared ourselves for tomorrow's activities.

Tuesday December 14
On Tuesday, the Year 7s motored away to the Robin's Roost Playground (Dinosaur Park) in Ulverstone. We had recess and got together in allocated teams to participate in a series of challenges won by Russi, Shyanne, Ashton, Jake and Kelcie. After our challenging challenges, we had a marvellous BBQ and relax at the park. We ended the day with an hour and a half on the waterside. A great day had by all.
