SLAM Poetry Performance - Angus Knight
Slam Poetry performance
Parklands students were entertained by Tasmanian performing Slam poet, Angus King in the PAC. Angus delighted the students with his humorous stories and poetry and encouraged them to craft their own lines of poetry and participate in parts of the performance.
Krystal Elphinstone put some lines together reflecting on her home town of Burnie. Students reflected that, ‘poems aren’t just random words – they mean something,’ and, ‘poems don’t have to rhyme in the usual way – most musicians use poetry to write their songs’.
A highlight of the performance for students, was a poem ‘slammed’ by our own staff member, award-winning Slam Poet, Lauren Hay. Lauren shared that she wrote this poem when she was a teenager about her dad, who the students were surprised to learn is Mr Hay
