Assistant Principal's Report
Naplan
The last fortnight has been a busy place in our Year 7 and Year 9 learning areas. Our students completed the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) and need to be recognised for their efforts. NAPLAN can be an intense period and our students embraced this challenge. Thanks to all teachers for running NAPLAN sessions, but a special mention to Mr Hall, Mr Hughes and Mr Crawford for making the experience a smooth one for all students.
Teacher Experience Placements
Over the past teaching cycle there have been some new faces on site. We have been lucky to have Miss Phoebe Taylor, Miss Samantha Cocker and Miss Sharni Rushton complete their Professional Experience at Parklands. It has been great to have three energetic and welcoming people join us, and we hope they have enjoyed their experience learning of three outstanding teachers: Mr Hickman, Miss Devlin and Mr Lewis. We wish them all the best for the rest of their teaching careers.
Student Reports & Parent Teacher
Student have been busy completing their classroom work to help contribute to their 2021 mid–year assessment and report. Teachers have been viewing student progress and working in their teams to finalise student assessment and develop feedback for future learning. Parents can expect their child’s report home in Week 9 (16 June) with parent teacher interviews on Wednesday June 23 and Thursday June 24. We strongly encourage every parent to book an interview to support their child to reach their potential in the second half of the year. Parents can book their parent teacher interviews through the link below or by calling the office on 6464 0600.

School Transitions
Term 2 is an exciting time at Parklands. We have started our 2022 Year 7 transition and our 2022 Year 11 transition. Our Year 10 students participated in an information session with staff from Hellyer College and were briefed on course counselling. We had over 30 attendees at the Year 11 information night. This will continue throughout Term 2 and Term 3. We look forward to supporting our students through this exciting stage in their education.
Over the course of Term 2 there has been lots of preparation going on to prepare for our 2022 students. Next week Miss Devlin and Mrs Munday will be visiting our feeder schools to start this process, and our Parent Information Evening is on Wednesday 16 June. We have had many bookings and are nearly at capacity for this due to Covid requirements, so please sign up quickly.
Cross Country
As I am writing this report, we have our students taking on the Romaine Park Reserve for our 2021 Cross Country. The morning has been a huge success with students working in vertical groups completing a range of challenges. A big thanks to our Health and Physical Education Team for putting on another great event. I don’t know if I am suffering from the Friday afternoon sillies, however, I am sensing a strong victory to Tarapa.
Guardian Support
To close, I ask that all parents speak to their child about their progress and how they are going at school. At Parklands we want every child to succeed, and for this to happen parent contribution and support is important. Please contact us as to how we can support your child’s learning, wellbeing and growth. We look forward to seeing you at our parent teacher.
